Hybrensys - Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems
The Ambient Loop Benefits Sectors About For Business Owners Get in touch

Our aim is straightforward - combine the separate elements of low carbon living and trade skills together into holistic systems that work as one - ground source, solar PV & Thermal, battery storage and efficient building fabric.

Ground Source Heat Pump Technology

Warm in January - Cool in July. Same loop - same ground.
All year round.

Hybrensys designs and delivers 5th Generation District Heating & Cooling (5GDHC) networks in the form of Ambient Loop ground source heat pump systems to bring heating, cooling and renewable power together into one practical, low carbon system - from a small scheme to whole developments.

The Ambient Loop, explained

One shared loop. Heating in winter, cooling in summer, no wasted energy in between.

An Ambient Loop is a network of boreholes, buried at a scale that suits the site, circulating water at close to the natural temperature of the ground beneath the UK - typically somewhere between 1 and 10 degrees. That water never gets hot; it stays gentle, stable and close to the temperature it started at.

Each connected building utilises its own compact heat pump(s), drawing on the shared header-loop and raising it to the required temperatures for space heating and hot water. In summer, the same equipment runs in reverse, quietly drawing heat out of the building and returning it to re-charge the ground with un-wanted energy.

Because the shared pipework itself never carries high-temperature water, there is very little energy lost in circulation - a genuine difference from earlier generation heat networks, where heat losses were significant before ever reaching a radiator.

Every building keeps its own controls, its own comfort settings and its own bill - joining a shared loop does not mean losing independence.

With no moving parts below ground and robust plastic pipework, a well designed loop is typically built to serve for 60 years or more.

The same principle scales from a handful of neighbouring homes to a full commercial estate served from this common ground infrastructure.

Why this matters now

Recent UK summers have made one thing clear: buildings constructed for a cool climate now need an answer for hotter climes as well.

Cooling is no longer a niche request from a handful of properties with large glazed areas. It is fast becoming a mainstream expectation across UK homes and workplaces alike. Simply bolting a separate air conditioning unit onto a building already equipped with a heating system is rarely the most efficient nor elegant answer. An Ambient Loop system is designed to do both from the outset, using the same infrastructure with low running costs on each function.

One system, two functions - heating and cooling delivered from the same ground loop and the same equipment.

Why choose an Ambient Loop system

Designed and built for a building's actual energy demand across the year...

Heating and cooling, one system

No separate air conditioning bolted on as an afterthought - the same equipment handles both, all year round.

Minimal distribution loss

Heat is only raised to a useful temperature at the point of use and not carried inefficiently through metres of shared pipework.

Independent control and billing

Shared ground, individual comfort.
Each property manages its own settings and its own, independent energy account.

Built to last

Buried pipework with no moving parts, commonly designed for 60 years or more of service.

Scales with the site

The same principle serves a single home, a small cluster of neighbouring properties or a full commercial development.

Part of a wider hybrid system

Designed to integrate with holistic solar PV, battery storage and EV charging systems and not as a standalone element.

Who we design for

Domestic and commercial, on the same underlying principle.

Domestic

New-build and retrofit homes, rural properties and estates - whether that means a single installation or a small shared loop of neighbouring properties from one, common ground infrastructure.

Commercial

The shared ground array and common infrastructure can serve multiple buildings from offices, warehousing, light industrial and mixed-use sites, reducing the disruption of separately-installed units.

Grounded in the science

Every system starts below ground...

Getting a ground array right means understanding the ground itself, its thermal conductivity, its geology and how much heat it can reasonably give up or absorb across a heating season without the resource drifting out of balance over time. We design each scheme to recognised UK closed-loop standards, sizing the array so the ground stays in balance year after year.

About Hybrensys

Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems - the name is the point.

Hybrensys first designed and delivered ground source heat pump systems in 2013, beginning with a single farm installation in Devon and continuing to work in the sector ever since.
Our name - Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems - reflects how we approach every project; not one technology considered in isolation, instead, designed from the outset to work together as a single system heating, cooling, with power and storage wherever possible. The technologies may - in fact will - change over time, but the underlying principles will deliver clean energy and low operating costs.

Considering the future of your business?

We are building a group across the ground source supply chain...

Hybrensys is actively bringing together well-established, respected businesses across the ground source heat pump sector and its wider supply chain - not only installation and drilling, but the engineering, fabrication and specialist trades that feed into every project. If you run a business in this space and have had a letter from us, this page is meant to give you a fuller picture of who we are before any conversation takes place.

Our approach is straightforward. Wherever possible, we aim to retain the business name, the existing staff and the culture that made it successful in the first place, backed by the practical support of shared back-office administration and the security of being part of the larger, growing Hybrensys group.

This work is led by our founder, whose background spans over 30 years across UK construction and refurbishment, surveying and low carbon consulting, blended with corporate business and finance systems, business acquisitions and investment.

If you would ever consider selling all or part of your business, whether it's a live consideration now or something further down the road, we would welcome an informal and entirely confidential conversation. There is no obligation.

Where we are looking
  • Ground and air source heat pump installers
  • Specialist drilling and groundworks contractors
  • Geothermal design and geotechnical consultancies
  • Engineering, fabrication and component businesses with either direct or indirect links to the sector
  • Adjacent trades: electrical, plumbing and M&E contractors

Ready to talk about your project?

Whether it is a single property or a shared scheme across several buildings, we are happy to talk through whether an Ambient Loop system fits your site.
